200 families in Figueres currently face foreclosure as crisis continues to bite

There are 1,000 vacant properties currently in Figueres and some 200 families are going through the foreclosure process.

The data comes from a new commission formed by a number of parties including the Red Cross, to monitor the issue and provide assistance. The commission will meet monthly. While the mayor was upbeat about the initiate, not all parties are happy, with one saying it appeared to have been a waste of their time.

With one in four of Spain’s workforce currently unemployed this is a big problem across the country for Spaniards and foreigners alike, with many pensioners unable to survive on their payments thanks to the current exchange rate between the pound and euro.
