The 9 best Begur hotels

Here we look at the top rated hotels in medieval Begur and along the picturesque coastline found here.

Hostal Sa Rascassa at Aiguafreda (David Leigh)

As well as the medieval town dominated by a 16th century castle, with the municipality of Begur is an expanse of rugged coastline. Here the pine covered cliffs plunge into the sea, dotted with a number of fishing villages and hamlets. It’s very much the picture postcard Costa Brava.

The area remains largely unspoilt despite being a popular tourist destination. But rather than the sun and fun tourism typified by Lloret de Mar, Begur attracts a very different crowd. Here you can expect a relaxed fortnight combining the beach with good food and drink, and walks along the camí de ronda coastal paths surrounded by nature.

The hotels in Begur then tend to be very different from the huge slabs of concrete found further south. While there is a wide choice of accommodation, hotels cater for clients with very different expectations.

And, judging by the ratings, Begur’s hotels deliver; a disproportionate number are rated as superb or excellent by guests who book online.

There are hotels located both in the nucleus of Begur itself, many of which have lovely views over the town and of the castle. But others located closer to the coast have fantastic views out over the Mediterranean or towards the Medes.

Ideally you’ll need a car to get the variety of coves, hamlets and villages along Begur’s coastline. But there is also the vast stretch of sand that extends northwards towards Estartit and a number of other excellent beaches around Palamós and Palafrugell.

Here we’ve compiled a list of the five top-rated hotels within the town and five more closer to the beach. But whichever way you go it’s hard to go wrong in Begur.
