Home wanted for 2 dogs within reach of Costa Brava

Busy, busy times at the moment. After spending a few days in l’Escala last week we arrived home on Friday to take delivery of 2 dogs that need to be re-homed. Ever since then it’s been non-stop!

Although they barely look like each other they are mother and daughter and ideally we’d like to find someone who can take both as they are close.

While we both love dogs they aren’t compatible with our 4 cats and so while we can look after them temporarily we are actively looking for someone who can take them.

How we ended up with 2 large dogs – the short version…

Someone found the older one, Lola, a couple of years ago. She gave birth to a large litter of pups, all of which found new homes but the runt of the litter, Alta and so they lived outside in an acre of land.

The owner then divorced and moved to a flat. Working on a house near us, he found the owner was planning on getting dogs and persuaded him to take these. They lived outside in the garden alone, with the builders feeding and watering them. That’s where we found them, worried they’d been abandoned.

The house owner now plans on selling his house, so doesn’t want the dogs.

They then started escaping and terrorising the local cat population, resulting in a couple of nights staying with us. I found them on the road and as they knew me called them and got them into our garden (don’t worry, the cats were all inside).

The dogs were then taken to the house of a friend of the owner, but again unsupervised and once there they were trying to escape and terrorising the cat population.

Finally we offered to look after the dogs until they could be re-homed and here they are.

Good temperament

Both are friendly and good natured (except for cats). There is a lot of mastiff, in them, but who knows what else. They haven’t had much training; on Friday we couldn’t even out Alta on the lead, but with a bit of encouragement and rewarding she is now happy to go out on the lead.

Neither would get into the car on Saturday, now both jump in after a little bit of encouragement and a few dog treats. I don’t know if you’ve ever had to lift a 40 kg dog into the boot of a car, but it isn’t easy!

Quick results from 3 days of training

So, It doesn’t seem to take much to train them and while we had dogs at home when I was a kid, I’ve never owned a dog and had to train it. We’ll carry in with the training while they are hear and for a bonus are tri-lingual in English, Catalan and Spanish 😉

If you are interested in the dogs then please get in contact, or if you know someone who might be a good fit with these 2 then pass along the details.

Use the contact form here and include your name, location and contact number. I’ll get in touch ASAP.

Many thanks,

David
