How to check availability of Movistar broadband speeds in Spain

I recently received an email from someone who is planning on moving to the Costa Brava from France and wanted to find information on broadband speeds in rural areas.

He is planning a move to Calabuig, which I had to look up on Google Maps, and from that it really does look quite remote. I’m quite remote too but get a 10MB/s connection from Movistar and told him this in my immediate reply. Later I logged on to the Movistar website and was able to pick an address in Calabuig (I didn’t have his street address) and conform that there at least Movistar can provide 10MB/s.

Thinking that this information might be useful for anyone moving to Spain (or moving IN Spain), I decided to share that info below:

Note: The page has changed several times and no longer recognises my address so I can’t go through the entire process.

1. Click here to open the page on the Movistar website to check coverage.

2. Select province then enter your street name (you don’t need Carrer/Calle etc), number and postcode and hit the button marked “Comprobar”.

3. It will then take you to another screen where you’ll need to complete some further details. If you live in an apartment block you’ll need to enter the floor number or for a house select “Chalet” and then click “aceptar”.

After trawling through the Movistar database for a few seconds, you’ll be taken to a page that displays whether you can have ADSL, Fibre and Television and the state of planning if not. For example, for my house there is currently no plan to install fibre, which would allow me to access the internet at 100MB/s.

I hope that’s useful, please leave comments or questions below.

Exactly what I’m looking for.. Is there a way to find out if an area has fiber.. Without knowing the address?
I have to select where to go based on the internet finer connection.. Any advice?

    Great info, thanks so much.
I have spend weeks on and off trawling the internet trying to find out if I will get fibre or ADSL to our new home. I know now its ADSL. Hey ho, but I believe its going to be faster than (what feels like dial-up) speeds I get at the moment in rural England. 🙂

  • Tried this but the page requires a phone number and does not accept English or english mobile numbers
